SOUTH BEND — The nonprofit group Rebuilding Together St. Joseph County in April will fix up homes in a neighborhood on the city’s far west side.

Homeowners can now apply for the free work, which will be performed by members of the trades and volunteers. The repairs vary from new roofs to furnaces, painting and small handyman jobs.

Priority is given to homeowners who are elderly, veterans or have disabilities, and whose income is within federal household limits.

The homes must be within the project boundaries: Mayflower Road on the west, Walnut Street/Pulaski Park on the east, and railroad tracks on the north and south. Western Avenue cuts through the middle of the area.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 30. Applications and a map of the target area are at RebuildingTogetherSJC.org. For questions or to volunteer, contact info@rebuildingtogethersjc.org or 574-289-1066.

Two informational meetings will be held to provide more details:

• Noon Oct. 11, held virtually via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87157885405

• 6 p.m. Oct. 11, in person at the Marycrest Building, 2015 W. Western Ave.
