Reading proficiency by third grade is the most important predictor of high school graduation and career success. Yet every year, more than 80 percent of low-income children miss this crucial milestone.
The Augustus F. Hawkins Literacy Program is hosted at the Charles Martin Youth Center and open to students in grades 3+. The program’s goal is to improve reading and reading comprehension for students that are struggling with literacy skills. Our ultimate goal is to ensure students are reading at grade level.
The Summer Literacy Program is in full swing. We just finished up our 2017-2018 after school literacy program and we have openings for the Summer 2018 Literacy Program. Use the myOn system to track your child’s reading progress over the summer from the comfort of your own home. The online system allows you log in to let your child read books and take quizzes. You can track the number of books your child is reading and monitor their progress.
