Reading proficiency by third grade is the most important predictor of high school graduation and career success. Yet every year, more than 80 percent of low-income children miss this crucial milestone.
The Augustus F. Hawkins Literacy Program is hosted at the Charles Martin Youth Center and open to students in grades 3+. The program’s goal is to improve reading and reading comprehension for students that are struggling with literacy skills. Our ultimate goal is to ensure students are reading at grade level.
