Colfax Campus Gallery: On Exhibit #2 Art Reception

The Colfax Campus Gallery is hosting an art show that features recent works by Steven Alger, Jennifer Calhoun and Laura Lemna. This is the second of the gallery’s On Exhibit: 2016-2017 series focusing on artists that live or work within 50 miles of South Bend. Steven Alger, in his “Lace and Line”, makes use of repurposed material as well as spray paint, acrylics, markers and hand-made stencils. He draws inspiration from graffiti, pop art, American traditional tattoos and cover art / concert posters. Jennifer Calhoun, in her “All the Beauty Around Us”, exhibits works in acrylic and oil, usually on canvas. She draws her subjects for what catches her attention around her at any given time: nature, people in repose or in an activity, and places. St. Joseph Valley Watercolor Society Colfax Campus Gallery Reception

The Colfax Campus Gallery dedicates one exhibition a year to an area Arts organization.  This year the St. Joe Valley Watercolor Society (SJVWS) will have its Group Juried Exhibition starting on Friday September 18 and ending on October 28, 2016.  The reception will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016. The SJVWS was founded in 1959 by Joseph Wrobel and is open to artist in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan.  This year the Leeper Park Art Fair celebrated its 49th year.  It is sponsored and organized by SJVWS and receives entries from throughout the United States. Visit St. Joe Valley Water Color Society.

Art & Social Justice Reception

Art and Social Justice” was the title of a joint exhibition of work by artists Jake Webster and Douglas Kinsey. The theme, a socially just world, is particularly reflective of South Bend Heritage Foundation’s mission and therefore inspired this annual juried exhibition. In its twenty-fifth year, the annual Art and Social Justice has become a significant and anticipated Colfax Campus Gallery event. Reception: Friday, July 15, 7-9 with discussion at 8 on the topic “The Time is Always Now” led by Chicago artists Mary King. The Exhibit will be open from July 8th – August 12th.

On Exhibit Reception

Colfax Campus Gallery presents portraits of humanity by Harry Ahn in its Court Gallery.   “It’s a Family Affair” is in the Seifert Gallery and the Paper Room.  Jan Di Gann, Gina (Di Gann) and Mary Beth Di Gann-Herczeg along with Fred Herczeg show ceramics, photographs, pastels and acrylics in honor of a family of artists.  The exhibition is up until June 14 and there will be a reception on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 7-9.

Reception for On Exhibit #2

On Exhibit #2: 2015-2016 show featuring: Gray Lyons’ cyanotypes, Michael May’s graphite on paper drawings and Mary Michalak’s pastels. On display until February 26, 2016. Besides being a veterinarian, Mary Michalak was a pastel artist who passed away this past year. The gallery is honored to show her work and give her deserving recognition. Michael May has created a series of episodes each of which have 8-11 drawings. There are two main characters that appear in each episode and each episode is its own story but also related to the entire series of episodes. Each story combines humor with more serious content. Gray Lyons’ photographs are self portraits focusing on issues of identity. She uses a photographic technique called cyanotype, a process using a negative printed on a specially prepared paper.
