Charles Martin Youth Center

A Gathering Place

CMYC front

History and Dedication

Charles Martin Youth Center is dedicated to Charles Martin, a youth and community advocate. Mr. Martin was director of Urban Youth Services at South Bend’s YMCA starting in 1970. Mr. Martin recognized the connection between education and a better life and strived to reach out to children and teach them the importance of academic schooling. Mr. Martin taught at Washington and Clay High Schools before embarking on his true “ministry”, preparing inner city youth for a productive life. Charles Martin passed away on June 2, 1994, but his legacy lives on in the lives he touched.

Centrally located near downtown, the CMYC is a popular meeting place for social, business and governmental gatherings. The Center is home to the Augustus F. Hawkins Literacy Center, South Bend Friends Meeting, New Discoveries Preschool and RiverBend Math. The CMYC serves as space for meetings, conventions and other gatherings.

We are currently not booking the Charles Martin Youth Center for any evening events. For more information on the Charles Martin Youth Center please call 289-1066 ext. 205 or 280-7092.
